How To Fit Second Career Training Into Your Life

Posted by Brad Dixon

When you consider the option of switching your career to a skilled trade, one of the biggest concerns we hear is that people aren’t sure they can fit going back to school into their everyday life. With some time management, as well as flexible course hours, going back to school doesn't have to be a hassle that halts your life - you may be able to fit it almost seamlessly into your life.

Accelerated Courses

At most private career colleges, because the courses are hands-on and immersive, you spend much less time actually in class than you typically would in a traditional college or university class. These classes usually run during the day for months on end, and involve having to take things like electives which you may not necessarily be interested in.

With an accelerated course at a private career college, you’re able to go to school full time for several weeks and immerse yourself in only the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in your new career.

Night Classes

Another option offered at most private career colleges is the option of night and/or weekend classes on a part-time basis. If you work a typical 9-5 now, you don’t need to worry that you won’t be able to make it to classes or will miss out on work time. Many schools have classes that run on evenings a few days a week, and one or both days per weekend.

Having the classes run only a few days per week also continues to help you seamlessly integrate going back to school in your life. With a few days off, you’re not likely to burn yourself out quickly by constantly shifting between your current job and school, which means you’ll still have time for social gatherings and family time. Night classes an ideal solution to the concern about going back to school for someone with an already busy life.
