When you are looking for the right school for your skilled trades education, there are a few things you should be considering in your search. We have already told you about Private Career Colleges, but there is more to it than that. Finding a Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) training provider will ensure you getting the right education in safe environment.

What is the TSSA?

The TSSA is a not-for-profit, self-funded organization that is dedicated to promoting and enforcing public safety.

Since 1997, the TSSA has been accountable to the Government of Ontario in providing safety services in four key sectors:

  • boilers and pressure vessels, and operating engineers
  • elevating devices, amusement devices and ski lifts
  • fuels

The TSSA is required to enforce the Techinical Standards and Safety Act and regulations, but they also promote and enforce actions to continuously improve safety. The organization acts as botha regulator and an advocate of safety standards throughout the province.

What does the TSSA do?

The TSSA has a number of activities that allow them to both promote and enforce safety.

The TSSA influences safety codes and regulations by supporting government in developing regulations and participating in developing and setting standards. They also inform and educate users and industry participants about safety practices, new codes, regulations and requirements.

The organization reviews new technology and modifications to existing equipment to ensure they comply with all codes and regulations. If a non-compliance situations occur, the TSSA takes action before or after a safety incident occurs. If an incident does occur, the TSSA will investigate.

The TSSA is also essential in training installations to properly train trades people and properly examine and certify these trades people.

Why is it important to find a TSSA training provider?

Safety in the workplace is of utmost importance, that's why registering with a skilled trades school that is a TSSA training provider matters.
